Uganda Christian University is mourning the death of Catherine Kisekka Batemyetto.
Batemyetto, who was 24 at the time she died, was a finalist set to graduate on February 28. She was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Education, majoring in English Literature.
The deceased was a resident of Mukono District and a daughter of Mr and Mrs Batemyetto of Makenke, Mubende District. The Standard learnt that the deceased fell sick on December 30 and was admitted to Amber Hospital until January 24 at 4:00am when she breathed her last.
The cause of her death remains unclear by press time, but Batemyetto was laid to rest on January 25 at her ancestral home in Kawanda-Kirinnyabigo along Bombo Road.
Joel Masagazi, the head of the Department of Education, said they were saddened by Batemyetto’s death. “Batemyetto called me the day before she died inquiring whether she would graduate in February,” Masagazi said. “She was very happy during the call when she learnt that she passed.”
Batemyetto’s death also shocked her friends at UCU. “If only you knew how I treasured every moment we had together!” one of her friends, Anna Faith Namayanja, stated. “I will miss you.”
