Uganda Christian University (UCU) volleyball teams are preparing for crucial Independence Day fixtures in the National Volleyball League tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the MTN Arena Lugogo.

The UCU Lady Doves will face KAVC at 6 p.m., aiming to extend their winning streak after a strong start to the season.

Lady Doves kicked off the campaign with a 3-0 sweep against Vision Volleyball Camp (VVC) on September 21 and followed it up with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Ndejje Elites on September 28.

In their latest game, the Lady Doves showed grit, coming back from two tight sets to win the decisive set and secure their second win of the season.

Coach Juma Osunge, proud of his team’s early success, emphasised the focus on improving their defence and serve.

“We are continuing to improve on our defence as a whole team and working on our service because we’ve been losing many serves in the last two matches. We want to continue with this good run and amass as many points as possible,” Osunge remarked.

Meanwhile, the UCU Doves (men’s team) will take on Nemostars at 8 p.m. After suffering a tough 3-1 loss to Elyon in their season opener, the Doves bounced back with a convincing 3-1 victory against Ndejje Sharks.

Captain Mark Omara Ochan reflected on the team’s progress after the win.

“The loss against Elyon was an eye-opener, reminding us to focus on every game. The win against Ndejje is a great way to bounce back, and we’re gearing up for the challenge against Nemostars.” said Ochan.

The Lady Doves will particularly focus on maintaining their unbeaten run, while the Doves will be eager to build on their recent success.
