Uganda Christian University (UCU) organised a thanksgiving worship to recognise its renowned past students who excelled at the Law Development Centre (LDC) in a celebration of academic achievement and remarkable accomplishments.

The ceremony began with prayers and blessings as members of the UCU community gathered in a customary community worship to acknowledge the divine direction of alumni who have flourishing at LDC. The tone was filled with awe and admiration as the community joined together in worship and expressed gratitude for the university’s journey thus far.

The recent LDC graduates from UCU are part of a group of students that finished their final semester despite the hurdles provided by the COVID-19 pandemic. These graduates were the first to complete a one-of-a-kind take-home exam, which was followed by a virtual graduation ceremony. The School of Law’s dean applauded their fortitude and mentioned their recent graduation from the acclaimed Law Development Centre (LDC). UCU recorded 12 first-class out of the top 20 graduates from LDC.

“Your great performance at LDC has proved that beyond the gates of UCU, our students continue to excel, and this has proved that we indeed produce the best,” said Dr. Peter Mutesasira, Dean, School of Law.

He acknowledged the growth of the UCU School of Law, stating that the School has become a leading force in the legal profession. Notably, the current president of the Uganda Law Society, Benard Oundo, is an alumnus of the university, underscoring the institution’s influence and the calibre of its graduates. He appreciated

Rev. Assoc. Prof. John Kitayimbwa, UCU’s Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs, expressed his gratitude for the outstanding achievements of UCU Law alumni and the School of Law. He stressed that the university genuinely lived up to its reputation as a centre of excellence in the heart of Africa by highlighting the 85 out of 120 LDC first-class graduates.

The UCU vice-chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, extended his congratulations and appreciation to the School of Law, noting their contributions to the university’s reputation. He announced plans to refurbish the School of Law in the following year as a testament to their exceptional work and commitment to excellence. “We shall buy a new van for the School of Law,” added Mushenyezi.

Josephine Namagembe, an alumnus of UCU, appreciated the university’s role in her achievement of this milestone. “It was an absolute honour on my end. I am humbled to be the recipient of appreciation from the institution that played an immeasurable role in my professional journey,” said Namagembe.

The university administration acknowledged the alumni by giving them awards. Emmanuel Okia, Shamira Kitimbo, Reagan Ahumuza, Jemimah Jehopio, Stephen Victor Bwambale, Job Ernest Ayesiga, Samuel Odiye, Mercy Edith Kwagala, Josephine Jojo Namagembe, and Martha Uwizeye
