Uganda Christian university , UCU, will feature prominently in this year’s 3×3 basketball in the ongoing 2024 African Games in Ghana.
The UCU Canons and Lady Canons have taken the lion’s share since each team has two representatives on the two released teams.
For the men (Silverbacks), Jesse Marvin and Joel Kayira, both from UCU Canons, will be joined by KIU’s Peter Obleng and JT Jaguars’ Duncan Lubwama.
While for the women (Gazelles), Sheilah Lamunu and Bridget Aber from UCU Lady Canons will be joined by JKL’s Becky Longom and KIU’s Mary Amaniyo.
The basketball 3×3 tournament will run from Monday, March 18, to Friday, March 22. This format will be played at the African Games for the second time since replacing the traditional setup in 2019.
The men will be locking horns with DR Congo, Burkina Faso, and Togo in the group, while the women will have to do all it takes to go past Nigeria, Togo, and Benin.
It will also be the first time the Silverbacks are taking part in the tournament in the 3×3 format since only the Gazelles made it to the previous edition that took place in 2019.
The Gazelles will be seeking to register a better performance after finishing fifth in the previous edition.
