Baggy, cool, modern: one man’s style

Fashion is a statement that not many people are bold enough to make. Just like the famous Coco Chanel once said – ‘I don’t do fashion. I am fashion.” Today, we speak with Jonathan Edgar Kasule,  a Bachelor of Data Science student in his second year, about his fashion that he calls cool and modern.

What’s the one clothing item or accessory you feel most confident wearing?

I love wearing baggy clothes because they are trendy and comfortable.

Is there a specific colour or pattern you’re drawn to when picking out an outfit?

No, not really I am not picky with colours so most times in case something looks good on me regardless of the colour, I put it on.

Where do you usually shop for clothes, and what draws you to those places?

I have my own plug for clothes who is basically my stylist and he usually picks out my outfits in case he gets new stock.

How would you describe your personal style in three words?

    Modern, cool and casual.

Who or what inspires your fashion choices? Celebrities, trends, family, or something else?

Wizkid has a huge influence on my fashion style because he is my role model in the fashion world.

What’s the most daring outfit you’ve ever worn, and what was the occasion?

There’s an outfit my stylist put up for me for a concert and at first I was not really feeling it because it was kind of dull but it really came off really nice.

How do you decide what to wear on a typical day versus a special event?

Honestly comfort influences my decision a lot, be it on a typical or special day, I always choose an outfit that will feel comfortable though on a special event I will choose a more eye-catching outfit.

Have you ever regretted a fashion purchase? If so, what was it and why?

Yes, there’s a pair of customised pants I bought but unfortunately it does not match with most of my shirts therefore I hardly wear it yet it cost me some good amount of money since it is customised.

How do you feel about sustainable or second-hand fashion—do you incorporate it into your style?

I really like second hand clothes because with new clothes there is a high possibility that very many people have bought the same cloth and it kind of looks weird.

If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

If I was to put on one outfit it would be black baggy pants, a vibrant shirt and for my shoes I would wear my Jordans.

What is the most expensive fashion purchase you have made?

That would be my Jordans that I bought at Shs280,000.

    Maintenance of the hair

How do you maintain your hair?

Honestly I don’t do anything. I have a personal barber and whenever I go to him for a haircut he usually maintains it for me.

Who plaits your cornrows and how long does it take?

Still whenever I have an event to attend, I always go to my barber who does them for me and the whole process takes about one hour.

Do you get any criticism for how you dress your hair?

Not so much honestly because my relatives are okay with it, maybe from the few people who don’t know me.
