Boda Boda Riding Bishop Asks Congregation “Where Are Your‘ Helmets’ ?”

If Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe had stayed put in his SUV on his journey to Mukono to deliver a sermon at UCU’s community worship, this Tuesday he would have been two hours late.  He was travelling from Kampala to minister at UCU’s calender mission week when he came to a crawl on the notoriously jam- fested highway leading to Jinja. UCU ‘s Main campus at Mukono was a few kilometres  distance  but hours  away.

The humourous story- telling Bishop recounted how he jumped onto a Boda boda motorcycle and arrived  right on time for the sermon. And this was not his first Boda boda riding experience. Himself , a motorcycle rider, narrated how he connected with the Boda boda riders in his diocese enticing them to come into holy matrimony with their unwed in holy matrimony live- in partners in Ntungamo. After the church marriage ceremony the newly- weds had a Boda boda procession in Ntungamo with him as chief rider.

But , this fun has a disclaimer, he says. One has to wear a helmet for safe protection of the nose, the eyes, the ears and above all the brain that controls all body activity. It is a choice that one has to take.

Referring to his traffic  jam experience, he explained that life is a matter of choices. Every choice one makes, makes one. It may not matter now but will affect one tomorrow. And the choice one makes can make a whole family, community, and country suffer.  Imagine if the good Bishop had jumped on a Boda boda whose rider had no helmet!

The right reverend while donning a real Boda boda rider’s helmet inquired of his congregation as to where their helmets of salvation were before calling them to take  the choice of coming forward and giving their life to the Lord.

The Bishop preached on the theme for the  mission week of  “ Choices and Consequences” .
