Heading into another year of the basketball league, the Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons and Lady Canons tested themselves against the rest in the UCU Invitational tournament that concluded Sunday.
Both teams reached the final and unfortunately lost against the JT Lady Jaguars and the KIU Titans.
A highly competitive women’s final that ended 50-45 in favor of the league’s newcomers. A tactical masterclass from an offensive standpoint by both sides.
This is an encounter we are looking forward to in the regular season as both teams have a very strong familiarity aspect to them.
Lady Canons injured captain, Hajjara Najjuko, says that the team is working on their chemistry and is impressed by their work thus far.
“The team is still getting used to the new rotations and each other; I am impressed that we were able to show fight and intensity in these games”, she says.
In the men’s final, the KIU Titans edged out the Canons 55-44 to take back the trophy to Kansanga.
The new signings, Said Amisi and Alan Kasujja, played really well, signaling their intent to go one better this year after losing the final last season.
The team’s captain, Blisk Ibanda, says that this tournament is going to show them where they are as a team.
“We are only going to get better as a team, and this tournament helped us show us where we are in time”, he says.
