In the bustling streets of the Kyebando suburb of Kampala, and under the nurturing gaze of his parents, Mr. Deruku Luiji and Mrs. Asumpta Peace, Candia Godwin Ivan’s journey into the world of medicine began. 

The Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Canons have stormed their way into the semi-finals of the highly anticipated Uganda National Basketball League playoffs in 2023. Their remarkable journey continued with a resounding triumph as they outclassed the Kampala Capital City Authority Leopards, securing a commanding victory with a final score of 93-61. The Lady Canons showcased their basketball prowess and determination at the prestigious Lugogo indoor arena, leaving no doubt about their readiness to contend for the league title. With this impressive win, they have not only advanced but also sent a powerful message to their competitors that they are a force to be reckoned with in the quest for championship glory.

Since the Global5K (blame it on Covid) hasn’t been an annual event (having been held 6 times in the last 9 years), here is my brief “origin” story of the Global5K that was my first Uganda Partners contribution when our family moved from the Uganda Christian University (UCU),  Mukono campus, back to the United States.

Wilson Wanyama, an alumnus of Uganda Christian University (UCU), has long had a desire to be a social entrepreneur. In 2021, when he learned of an undergraduate program known as Bachelor of Development and Social Entrepreneurship, he saw a chance to bump up his dream.
