Florence Birungi Mugisha, an alumni of Uganda Christian University (UCU), has returned to her former university, taking on the important duty of Official University Custodian for all female halls of residence and connected hostels. Her journey, which is based on Christian ideals, demonstrates how faith has influenced her personal and professional purpose.

Mugisha and her companions at UCU made a pledge during their undergraduate years to keep their virginity until marriage, in an era when society conventions frequently question conventional beliefs. They happily upheld this pledge. Florence, the lone daughter of six brothers, earned a bachelor’s degree in science in computer technology from UCU in 2013.

Florence displayed a strong commitment to service and leadership while a student, serving as a residential assistant at Little Angels in 2012, guild vice president from 2012 to 2013, and ICT faculty treasurer from 2010 to 2013.

Florence continued her study after graduation, earning a Certificate in Customer Service and Public Relations from Uganda Management Institute (UMI) in 2016 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from UMI in 2019–2020.

She gained tremendous expertise throughout her six-year employment as Human Resource and Operations Manager at Pulse Specialist Clinic, as well as her four-year stint as a Vodafone Uganda Call Centre Team Leader.

Florence’s choice to return to UCU stemmed from her affection for the university and the great impact it had on her life. Reflecting on her spiritual experience, she says, “I met Christ in my first year during orientation week, when Archbishop Luke Orombi spoke. Giving my life to Christ made a tremendous difference in how I navigated campus life without distractions.”

Florence, who is now happily married and the mother of three children, credits prayer and values like transparency, commitment, submissiveness, and respect for her eight-year marriage success.

Florence sees herself as a mother figure to the female students in her current capacity as Custodian, rather than merely an administrator. She underlines the need of having a mother’s heart when carrying out office obligations.
