UCU Canons and UCU Lady Canons gaffer Nicholas Natuhereza has set a target ahead of the 2024 National Basketball League that is set to tip off on Friday, January 26, 2024.
Last season, the two sides finished third to take hold of bronze in the campaign that was later clinched by the Lady JKL Dolphins and City Oilers for the ladies and men, respectively.
While speaking to The Standard, Natuhereza revealed that his target is to take both sides in the finals of the campaign that has yet to kick off.
“It’s hard to tell what the ultimate target is, but if we make it back to the finals, then it will be a good season for us,” he said.
“We want to build on what we achieved last season; apart from the drama of the walkover and possible relegation, I think we had a decent run. If our players had probably not gotten injured, we would have made it to the finals,” he added.
“But I think we are better compared to how we were last year. At least going on personnel alone, we have brought in players that address some of the challenges we faced last year.”
“We have two young players who address the challenge of size. We literally played a one-big-man roaster almost the entire season with Bridget Aber. However, we have brought in two young girls, Sylvia (Nantongo) and Matrina (Anyango), who can cover that gap.”
The UCU Lady Canons will be in action on Saturday, January 24, as they play Kampala University in the morning, while the UCU Canons will play Kampala Rockets on the same day later in the evening.
