Uganda Christian University (UCU) students today witnessed a thrilling conclusion to the 28th Guild elections, as Abraham Elamaboni was declared the Guild President-elect, securing 2,163 votes (53.24%) against Bright Atuhaire, who garnered 1,904 votes (46.76%). The announcement sparked immediate celebrations across the campus, with students cheering, singing, and waving banners in support of their new leader.

The elections were conducted using the eChagua online voting platform, allowing students to cast their ballots securely via university credentials and personalized codes. Polling opened early, with students enthusiastically turning out to participate in the democratic process. Observers noted a lively atmosphere, with students discussing candidates’ visions, urging peers to vote, and following the results with palpable excitement.

The 2025 elections followed a structured roadmap. Candidates submitted applications in mid-October, underwent vetting by the UCU Electoral Commission (EC), and participated in campus-wide debates ahead of the vote. These activities allowed students to engage with candidates and make informed decisions before heading to the polls.

The Electoral Commission reported that the voting process was smooth, despite minor technical challenges during nomination. Officials confirmed that the eChagua system performed efficiently on polling day, ensuring a transparent and credible election.

Student reactions ranged from jubilation among Elamaboni’s supporters to respectful acknowledgment from other candidates’ supporters.

Elamaboni, who was in tears of joy appreciated the student community for supporting him.

“I had an idea and you carried it, even though I was weak, you encouraged me there therefore, this leadership is commissioned by God,” said Elomaboni.

The celebratory energy was evident across campus, with groups of students chanting and singing as they awaited the final results, reflecting a renewed spirit of student engagement and participation.

The successful conclusion of today’s election marks another milestone for UCU’s student governance and underscores the growing role of digital voting in campus elections. The swearing-in ceremony for the 28th Guild Government is scheduled for November 27, 2025, when the new leadership will officially take office and begin representing the student body.

With today’s announcement, UCU students look forward to a vibrant year of student leadership and engagement under the newly elected Guild President, Abraham Elamaboni
