    Elomaboni returns to Guild race

    The Uganda Christian University (UCU) Guild Electoral Commission has officially confirmed the reinstatement of third-year law student Abraham Elomaboni in the 2025 Guild Presidential race.

    In a statement released on November 3, 2025, and signed by UCU Electoral Commission Chairperson Asunta Aggrey, the Commission stated that Elomaboni had “successfully met all requirements and is cleared to contest for the position of Guild President.”

    The statement further confirmed that he has been officially reinstated as the second candidate on the ballot following correspondence from the Directorate of Student Affairs.

    The clearance follows the UCU Chaplaincy’s verification of Elomaboni’s Anglican confirmation, a requirement that had initially led to his disqualification during the October 29 vetting. His reinstatement restores a competitive race that had appeared uncontested.

    Elomaboni released a statement expressing gratitude and emphasizing his commitment to service: “We do not seek title, nor applause, but stewardship. Our campaign is undertaken as an act of service to God and to our fellow students.” 

    He also announced that his official campaign launch will take place on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, after which the campaign team will engage student halls, hostels, and gatherings to share his vision for leadership and community renewal.

    Law student Destiny Wandera said the reinstatement has renewed enthusiasm among the student body, noting that “Abraham’s return not only allows him to pursue his passion for leadership but also re-engages students in the voting process, ensuring a meaningful and competitive election.”

    Betty Takali, one of the candidates that was disqualified at faculty level, added that while the initial handling of Abraham’s candidacy was unfortunate, they hope the elections will be conducted fairly and transparently, with Abraham’s reinstatement reflecting a genuine commitment to the democratic process.

    On his part, Bright Atuhaire (presidential candidate) welcomed the development, saying, “It is okay if someone has come on board. I believe in competition, and it will bring out the best candidate. Whoever wins will be the next Guild President, and I welcome this positively. In the first place, I am not in competition with anyone; we are pushing for the agenda we believe in.”

    With this development, UCU students will now have a two-candidate presidential contest when they head to the polls on November 13, 2025, to elect leaders for the 28th Guild Government.
