After a series of various games played across the week, the Department of Finance and Administration was crowned as champion of the Uganda Christian University, UCU Staff Gala Competitions.

The games which were organised by the office of Directorate of Human Resource, started on Tuesday 4th November and came to a climax on Friday November 7th at the university’s main football pitch. Among the sports disciplines played were the sack race, 100 × 100 walking race, set piece running, football, water bottle filling, tug of war, and quizzes of both biblical and secular aspects of life.

The three sections of the university’s staff that participated included Finance and Administration, Academic Affairs and The Vice Chancellor’s Department. At the end of the competition, the winners Finance and Administration, won with a total of 58 points having defeated Academic Affairs at the finals in football, by 2:0. Academic Affairs ranked second with a total of 53 points while The Vice Chancellor’s Department came in third position with 34 points.

In his address to the teams, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyenzi said, “This is one of the activities we would like to see happening annually towards the end of the year towards making sure that our staff have a moment to celebrate, to enjoy their university, enjoy the fellowship of their colleagues. Because out of that you build collegiality, you build harmony and that is how in our strategic direction we want to be the happiest university in this country. You build that by making sure that the staff team is motivated, is engaged and is appreciated. So thank you our staff, we appreciate you, we love you.”

The final day of the competitions saw the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr. David Mugawe along with his counterpart of Academic Affairs Associate Professor John Mulindwa Kitayimbwa and other staff members of UCU in attendance.
