Uganda Christian University (UCU) has held its first graduation ceremony for students who completed a new short course – the Administrative Officers Law Executive Course. This professional course is meant to improve understanding of the law and promote ethical decision-making in institutions.

The graduation took place at UCU’s main campus in Mukono and celebrated students who had successfully finished the 12-week programme.

The course targets professionals working in leadership, administration, human resources, and church governance, helping them understand how Uganda’s laws affect decisions in their work.

The ceremony was attended by top leaders from the university and the Church of Uganda, including the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi; the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Rev. Dr. John Kitayimbwa; and the Provincial Secretary, Rev. Canon Capt. William Ongeng, who represented the UCU Chancellor, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.

While addressing the graduates, Prof. Mushengyezi praised the new course and congratulated the students. “You are the first group to complete this programme. This certificate will help you lead better, with fairness and knowledge of the law,” he said.

Rev. Dr. Kitayimbwa spoke about the importance of legal knowledge in today’s workplaces. “Knowing the law is no longer a choice—it is necessary. This training will help you make good decisions that follow Uganda’s laws,” he said.

Dr. Peter Mutesasira, the Dean of the School of Law, who was the overall coordinator of the course, thanked the students for their hard work and feedback. “We have learned from you as much as you have learned from us. Your ideas will help us improve the course as we plan to offer it in more places,” he said.

Some students were awarded for outstanding performance. All the graduates met the required academic standards, and many are expected to use their new knowledge in different fields like education, health, religious organisations, NGOs, and the government.
