Miss Leah Nagasha was crowned the New Miss Campus Bishop Barham University College (BBUC, Kabale, 2024-25 on October 19th during the Cultural Gala that the campus had.
Nagasha, a year one student studying for a Diploma in Social Work and Social Administration defeated Terryletishia Karagwa a year one student doing a bachelor’s degree of education.
The 20 year-old says she wants to use her position in the campus to be an influencer for the good of students and her emphasis will be on promoting social entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity, as well as boosting the confidence of fellow young women in the university so as to inspire them to always take part in such competitions.
“I was ambitious and took part in this competition. I want to become the campus ambassador and influence my fellow girls in the campus,” she said.
Nagasha, a resident of Kamwezi Sub county, Rukiga District, studied at Penstar Primary School and Makindye Secondary School respectively. She said her desire to compete in pageants started during her A’ Level studies at Makindye Secondary School when she took part in music, dance and drama competitions and won bursaries which catered for her tuition.
“I gained a lot of confidence that keeps driving me up to now to always embrace each and every opportunity that comes along my way,” she said.
During the event, one of the Judges, Viola Nahabwe expressed her concern about the small number of girls that take part in the Miss Campus Competitions: “There is a need to motivate girls at BBUC to embrace such competitions. It shows that there is a lack of self esteem.”
Nagasha replaced Elizabeth Tumuranze, Miss Campus BBUC 2023-24.
