UCU 71 – 51 Nabisunsa
UCU Lady Canons revamped from a loss against KIU Rangers to beat Nabisunsa Basketball 71–51 in a National Basketball League game played on Sunday, 7th July at YMCA Wandegeya.
UCU started off with a strong lead, scoring 24 points against Nabisunsa’s 11 in the first quarter. Sylvia Nakituuka opened the score with a three-point shot. Despite missing a couple of layups and jump shots, Nakituuka’s 11 first-quarter points gave the Lady Canons an early upper hand.
In the second quarter, UCU managed to put up 13 points continuing their trend of second-quarter slumps, but they still went into halftime with a comfortable 37–22 lead.
At the third quarter, UCU returned for business. Nakituuka made a great three-point jump shot to extend UCU’s lead by 18 points. By the end of the quarter, UCU had added 24 points against Nabisunsa’s 16.
In the final quarter, fresh from graduation, forward Divine Akachukwu Ezeofor was introduced and became a force on the offence. UCU trailed 10–13 in the quarter, but the margin was already out of reach for Nabisunsa, who fell 71–51 by the final whistle.
For the Lady Canons, Nakituuka led the scorers with 19 points, while forward Zoe Atek added 11 points to Martina Anyango’s 10 points and 7 rebounds.
For Nabisunsa, Mpoza Abigail continued her scoring spree with 16 points and 3 rebounds, while guard Martha Yikiru followed with 11 points.
