    By Michael Ainomugisha.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) volleyball teams experienced mixed fortunes in the National Volleyball League season opener on September 21, 2024.

The UCU Doves suffered a hard-fought 3-1 loss to Elyon in their early morning match, while the UCU Lady Doves delivered a commanding 3-0 victory against Vision Volleyball Camp (VVC) later in the day.

Coach Juma Osunge’s boys put up a valiant effort but ultimately lost to Elyon in four sets. Elyon narrowly won the first set 25-23 and the second set 26-24. The Doves rallied in the third set, dominating with a 25-17 win. However, Elyon sealed the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.

In contrast, the UCU Lady Doves, under the guidance of Coach Juma Osunge, impressed with a 3-0 sweep against VVC.

The two battled through a tight first set, winning 26-24, and followed up with another close second set victory, 25-23. The Lady Doves then cruised through the third set, securing a 25-16 win to cap off their dominant performance.

With the Lady Doves off to a winning start, the UCU Doves will look to regroup and aim for a better result in their upcoming fixtures.
