The Law Development Centre (LDC) has released a statement on the admission of 1,643 applicants who had qualified but had not been taken up due to few slots available. According to the release, LDC is committed to admitting the applicants to the post graduate diploma in legal practice for the academic year 2024/2025. It is important to note that one cannot become a court advocate in Uganda without passing the LDC bar course.

The release also states that the applicants shall report on 6th January, 2025 for the second intake. They have been posted to other LDC centres in Mbale, Lira and Mbarara.

Earlier, Mr. Frank Obonyo, the Public Relations Officer at LDC, said that the institution received over 4,000 applications for the limited 1,500 available slots.

“LDC can only admit 1,500 students per intake yet we received applications from 14 universities accredited to teach law in Uganda.” Obonyo said then.

Following engagements between LDC and the government through the Attorney General, the government has since released funds to cater for the 1,643 applicants that had not received admission letters for the academic year 2024/2025.

After the announcement was made, the applicants received notifications regarding their admissions via email.

Edrine Setimba, an alumnus at UCU said that finally being admitted at LDC is a prayer answered. “I had lost hope but upon receiving the LDC email, hope has returned and indeed it is a prayer answered for me and everyone else that was waiting. It feels good because I don’t have to worry about not knowing what’s next. I have a plan now of working for three months as I wait for January,” Setimba said.
