    Makerere emerges as overall swimming champions at AUUS

    As the competition unfolded, Makerere University (MAK) emerged as the overall swimming champions, amassing a total of 1001 points. The combined efforts of their talented swimmers propelled them to victory in the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Swimming Championships, which concluded yesterday, December 19, 2023.

    The pool at Makerere University, where swimming took place, witnessed fierce battles, record-breaking moments, and displays of skill and determination.

    The competition kicked off with the Boys 1500 Freestyle, setting the tone for the thrilling matches ahead. Jacob Mugisha of Makerere University dominated, securing the top spot with a remarkable time of 19 minutes, 4 seconds, and 76 microseconds. The pool echoed with cheers as Mugisha showcased his skill, earning 18 points for his team.

    Priscila Erapu, also of Makerere University, continued the momentum in the Girls 50 Breaststroke, triumphing with a swift 42.41. Her flawless technique earned MAK another 18 points, solidifying their presence in the championship.

    Ben Kaganda of Makerere University of Business (MUBS) School showcased his swim mastery in the Boys 50 Butterfly, gliding through the water with precision and speed to claim the top spot. His outstanding performance secured 18 points for MUBS.

    Makerere dominated the girls 4 x 100 medley relay, clocking an impressive time of 6.56.35, while Ndejje University triumphed in the boys 4 x 100 medley relay with a time of 4.14.21.

    Grace Kirabo Nakalyowa of Makerere University exhibited a commanding presence in the Girls 400 Freestyle, clinching the top spot with a time of 7.43.91. Her performance earned Makerere crucial points in the overall standings.

    Kaganda of MUBS continued his stellar run, clinching victories in both the boys 200 IM and boys 400 IM. His endurance shone through, contributing significantly to MUBS’ success.

    Combined (boys and girls) university rankings for swimming:

    Makerere: 1001 points

    Ndejje: 628 points

    MUBS: 620 points

    UCU: 54 points

    Kampala University: 58 points

    Nkumba: 22 points
