Samantha Mwesigye, the newly elected 27th Guild President of Uganda Christian University (UCU), has officially opened applications for various cabinet positions, inviting active participation from the student body to work with her cabinet.
According to her letter to the student fraternity, the application period will close on December 27, 2024, with opportunities for 14 ministerial roles including Vice President , 10 deputy ministers, and positions in the Electoral Commission and judiciary.
In her announcement, Mwesigye expressed gratitude for having been elected president of the Guild Government and stressed the importance of professionalism in the submissions.
The UCU Student Guild Constitution as amended 22nd November 2012 mandates that the president must form a cabinet within seven days of taking office.
However, Mwesigye’s cabinet formation has faced delays; it has been 23 days since her swearing-in and will reach 31 days by the application deadline.
In an exclusive telephone interview with Mwesigye on this concern. she defended this delay by citing a lack of a parliamentary speaker, adding that she is using this time to organize her cabinet effectively.
The constitution allows Mwesigye to appoint only five cabinet ministers from the student body, while seven must come from elected Members of Parliament. Additionally, out of ten deputy minister positions, only six can be filled by students. .
