UCU Lady Canons secured a 78-28 victory against Kampala University in the National Basketball League one-sided encounter played at YMCA Court in Wandegeya on Saturday morning.
The game started at a slow pace as both sides were seeking to find their footing on a wet court, but the Lady Canons came out of the first block leading 13-9.
In the second quarter, the Lady Canons started sailing away with quick transitions while Kampala University struggled all through, picking only one basket in the whole block. By halftime, Nicholas Natuhereza’s troops staged a 24-point lead (35-11).
Coming from the locker rooms, Kampala University looked so much improved and managed to yield 12 points; however, they hardly had a plan to stop the well-oiled Lady Canons’ machine. At the end of the third quarter, UCU led 60-23.
The Lady Canons limited Kampala University to five points as they dropped 18 points in the last quarter. The Mukono-based side kicked off the campaign with a 50-point lead.
Hajara Najjuko, Tracy Namugosa, and Shakira Nanvubya scored 15, 14, and 12 points to drop in double digits for the Lady Canons, while only Hanifa Namuli scored 16 points as the only double-figure for Kampala University.
The Lady Canons will be in action on Wednesday, January 31, as they take on the UPDF Lady Tomahawks at the Lugogo Arena.
