The Vice-Chancellor of Uganda Christian University  (UCU) Assoc. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi has urged the newly appointed Deans and Heads of Departments to promote eLearning even after the end of the Covid-19 period.

This was during their inauguration at the Hamu Mukasa Library last week. Assoc. Prof. Mushengyezi emphasized UCU’s desire to build a robust eLearning system across all the various faculties in order to tap into the ever-growing online market. Additionally, he reminded them that it is their mandate to pioneer and consolidate this innovation.

He gave reference to the University of South Africa(UNISA), which he said has over 300,000 online enrollment hence ensuring growth of the university. The VC also cautioned them to desist from complacency bearing in mind that these are abnormal times and they ought to come up with new strategies to ensure advancement at their various stations.

Referring to himself as a ‘Covid appointment’, Mushengyezi applauded the digitalization path taken by the university under his stewardship to initiate the take home examinations and online voting for Guild officials as a success.

He further stated that the ability to ensure pre-entry examinations for law, medicine and virtual graduation amidst the pandemic is testimony that the sky’s the limit.

He also boasted of how UCU has been able to clear NSSF and PAYE remittances up to date despite the financial disruptions of the pandemic. The Vice-Chancellor also mentioned to the audience about the acquisition of new premises for the Kampala campus which is going to save sh1.8 to be channeled to improving staff salaries.

Assoc. Prof Aaron Mushengyenzi was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of UCU in Febraury 2020.
