On Thursday, 26th of June 2025, the Talk to Mama Pesh mentorship programme was officially launched at Uganda Christian University during Community Worship. The event was graced by Justice Michael J. Chibita as the guest of honor, the University Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyenzi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Mr. David Mugawe, a number of staff members and the student body.
The programme was birthed by Mrs. Patience Mushengyenzi in May 2023, out of her passion to help university students achieve academic excellence with values, but also as a gesture of supporting her husband’s ministry as the Vice Chancellor of the University.
“I work with Makerere University as the Deputy Registrar in charge of Senate, but for the last 26 years I have interacted with university students. I have seen university students come with the vibe and vigour to study and somehow, they go astray and when you talk to them, they come back. Those whose lives have been renewed come back and they are focused on their studies,” she stated.
The guest of honor, Justice Chibita, using Proverbs 2:1-7 and King Solomon in the Bible as the point of reference, urged the students to seek wisdom as the major road to success. He acknowledged that as students, the main road to success is education, but this must be backed up with wisdom. He also called upon the students not to allow the thought of death to be a limitation to working hard.
Richard Mutebi, the 26th UCU Vice Guild President and one of the pioneers of the Talk to Mama Pesh programme, expressed his gratitude and appreciation of this mentorship programme: “The beauty of the programme is it shortens the distance between the average student and high quality mentors, and above all the vision bearer herself Mama Pesh has a mother touch in all this,” he noted.
The Talk to Mama Pesh mentorship series is hosted every last Sunday of the month, at Uganda Christian University, main campus in Nkoyoyo Hall, at 3pm.
