In a historic move, Gelda Nasozi, a third-year law student, has shattered gender barriers to become the first female prime minister of the Uganda Christian University (UCU) Guild government in years. Nasozi, expressing gratitude for the opportunity, credits her faith and determination for achieving this milestone.

Leadership, for Nasozi, traces back to her primary school days when she was appointed head girl. Her journey continued at St. Lawrence, where she served as the Mother General, and now as the prime minister. Her passion for helping people, particularly advocating for the rights of girls, serves as her driving force.

Inspired by her father, Nasozi acknowledges his unwavering support as a crucial factor in her personal and academic growth. Her leadership goals include boosting Guild-run programs by involving university alumni and government officials, expanding coverage through media, and hosting events like a tuition dinner with esteemed guests.

Challenges, however, loom in her path, with Nasozi confronting male chauvinism and a government dominated by men dismissive of alternative perspectives. Undeterred, Nasozi remains resolute in her commitment to serve and overcome obstacles with a positive mindset.

Nasozi encourages women and girls to defy stereotypes, proclaiming, “What a man can do, a woman can also do.” Despite her short temper, she stands firm, anchored by her honesty and integrity, urging others to pursue counseling as a means of support and mental well-being.

Outside her political role, Nasozi describes herself as an introvert who values privacy but cherishes moments with family. In her parting remarks, she assures students that the 26th Guild government is dedicated to their service, emphasizing an open-door policy for all.

Nasozi’s educational journey, marked by a transition from French to English, exemplifies her adaptability and determination. Studying in Rwanda for nursery and primary, she later honed her English language skills at New Lifetime primary school in Makindye and St. Lawrence Ssonde, Namugongo, for secondary education.

Gelda Nasozi stands as a force to be reckoned with, breaking barriers and inspiring a new era of leadership at Uganda Christian University.
