The Uganda Christian University (UCU) school of social sciences football team has eliminated the UCU Faculty of Agricultural sciences football team from the interfaculty tournament.

The School of Social Science progressed to finals after overcoming the Faculty of Agriculture in spot kicks. on five to four penalties.

After a hard-earned stalemate in normal time, which saw both teams score in each half, the Social Workers won the second game in a row on penalties, which they won five to four.

“Personally, l believe we didn’t play to our best but God was on our side and we got the win which we wanted, it was a good game,” remarked Ntege Abraham, vice-captain School of Social Sciences football team.

“We had a better game, we had the better chances but, in a way, we just failed to utilize them, today, it was just not on our side,” said Sonko Alpha captain of the Faculty of Agricultural Science football team.

This highly anticipated showdown started with social works team on the offensive as the towering number 20, Junia sent a teasing ball which found Mane Otwoke only to be flagged offside.

The Social Scientist kept asking all the questions through Ichuma Simon and Meri Moses but their Agriculture Counterparts renowned for their solid rock defending were not to be broken.

The Faculty of Agriculture had their opening through a well worked counter attack as James Ekoku found himself one on one with the keeper but put the ball wide ajar, off the target.

Chances kept coming for the Faculty of agricultural Science team as Ekoku later found himself in yards of space only for his low shot to cleared off the line by Remmy wangula.

The Agriculture team was at this point dominating much of the proceedings as they were taking the ball to the social workers.

Moments later, Ngozaga matengo was brought down, yards off the box and Ekoku James stood before the freekick which he arrowed in the top right corner leaving the goalie, Amos Ongoe with no chance.

The second half saw more activity from the Social workers who were working around the clock to offset the one goal deficit.

Their efforts were rewarded almost immediately as a long teasing cross from Remmy, bounced dangerously finding Ichuma Simon who headed home after spotting the keeper off his line.

This goal set the mood for a grilling atmosphere in the successive stages of the game as all sides had the desire to go all the way.

After various attempts from either side, none would break the opponent’s defenses and the referee ended the game in normal time which the social Workers went on to win in penalties.

The School of Social sciences advances to the football final of the tournament where they will face a footballing hardened Engineering side.

“There’s no weak team that reaches the final stage, since we have reached this level then we are ready to take them on” said Ntege. “we are going to train harder so that we can match whatever they have to bring on,” continued Ntege assuring.

All roads will lead to the UCU new pitch this Friday for this mouthwatering prospect of these two top performers of this year’s edition of the Interfaculty competition.

The basketball and netball final shall also be played on this Friday in what is building up to be a thrilling sporting day summing up the 25th guild government’s interfaculty project.
