UCU Doves has landed a spot in the Volleyball final in the Men’s category after edging Makerere University volleyball team. The Makerere Chuss volleyball team lost by a 3-0 set result in the 20th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports, AUUS Games 2025.

On a slippery volleyball court after a heavy downpour, it appeared as an additional advantage to the Doves rising as they had fallen before. Three consecutive sets against The Chuss who struggled a lot in the first set.

UCU Doves scored 25-13 in the first set, 25-20 in the second set, and 25-19 in the final set to leave no stone unturned for Makerere University.

With the continuity showcase of their mastering style of the set and spike, Phillip Duke emerged hostile for the Chuss, at least making an average of six points through spiking in each set of the three played.

The Doves team setter Tonny Asasira, in a fine and prime form, set every second ball coming to him whenever UCU Doves served for Allan Andrew Arinda, Nickson Tumusiime, Spencer Ayamba, all jumping too high for the set spikes in return for conversion for more points.

Allan Andrew Arinda, a UCU Doves middle player, said that it was about confidence in the group stages, as we have lost. A set to two teams, but that is not what we wanted , our aim was to win 3-0 for whoever we faced. But for the knockout stage no jokes, because once a team gets a set on us , more pressure mounts on us.

” Volleyball has been here at UCU for decades, but handball has started this year, players have come from different sports disciplines. I have also played it, but that’s not my thing; I am meant for volleyball. And we know what to inherit for volleyball to keep flourishing at UCU.” Arinda narrated in response to why their performance is exceptional.

” We believe in our coach, we’re his mercenaries, he tells us guys go and do what has told you to do, above all, we are league players, and we already know what to do. ” Said Arinda.
