The Uganda Christian University(UCU) Doves have concluded the group stages of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) games having beaten Makerere University Business School (MUBS) three sets against one. The Doves beat MUBS with convincing results through the sets winning 25-21, 25-10 and then conceding the third set 23-25 before bouncing back with a 25-16 victory to crown the affair.
A number of players however were dissatisfied with the fact that the team continues to lose sets. Their targets were set on winning three sets straight to give their opponents early send-offs. We had come with an aim of beating every team that we meet three nil, because of who we are, said Allan Andrew Alinda, one of the players.
During the game, the Doves were widely rotated and big names like Captain Elly Naguma and Allan Andrew Alinda spending time on the bench giving room for fresh hands to gain experience in the tournament. The team awaits semifinal draws with the fixtures slated to take place tommorrow. Owing to this, Alinda affirmed that the team is ready for the challenge, but they need to find a way of dealing with the pressure that comes during games like these. At times, pressure comes through to the knockout stages because every error you make feels like you are going to cost the team.
If UCU make it through to the final after tomorrow’s semi-final encounter, they will be seeking to defend the title for a ninth time in the AUUS games.
