The Uganda Christian University (UCU) 25th Guild government has officially released the 2023 electoral roadmap. This was ably done by the electoral commission, which is an independent body in the student’s guild charged with this proposition.
The roadmap echoes the eve of the 25th guild government’s tenure in the upper echelons of student leadership at Uganda Christian University.
It also ignites a new burst of energy amongst the many probable contenders in the coming guild elections. It’s fair to say with profound confidence that the race to the 26th guild government is on.
The roadmap started due operation yesterday, the 16th of October, and will run until the 30th of November, culminating in a general handover.
Notably, after the release of the document, multiple candidates released their official declarations to stand for several elective positions within the Student Guild.
“We were aware that it was coming; now that it has come, there’s a bit of tension that’s brewing,” said Asunta Aggrey. “But I am mentally prepared. It’s now a matter of laying out clear strategies that will propel me to total victory,” continued the international student aspirant.
Tayebwa Ananda, who is aspiring for the post of member of parliament in the School of Journalism, Media, and Communication, shared her motivation.
“I am both terrified and inspired, but with God on my side, I will overcome the fear since God is on my side,” assured Ananda.
The soft-spoken journalism major also said that she intends to use her position to inspire many out there to stand for truth, service, and justice.
With the political atmosphere ignited, the electoral commission has called for general calm. Chaiman Akoragye Andrew cautioned all the aspiring candidates to adhere to the deadlines as precisely presented in the roadmap.
An old saying goes “Even the one that ploughs on soft soil must reach a time and break off.” This much is true for the 25th guild government. After a highly engaging tenure of service distinguished by top performance, It’s only a matter of time before they put the tools down.
The question that then remains is: to whom will these tools be bequeathed? The University community will have the right to decide on the ballot come the 14th of November, 2023.
