The countdown to the 12th edition of the East African University Games is only a few days away, so preparations are well and truly in their final stages.
As of today, Uganda Christian University (UCU) has eight of the 21 registered disciplines, meaning that the institution will have over 100 athletes represented in Ndejje.
UCU will be looking to go one better this edition after finishing second in the last edition that took place in Dodoma in 2018.
They were able to win 37 medals in total, with 22 of those being gold. finishing second to this edition’s hosts, Ndejje University, who scooped 69 gold medals.
Athletics will be the institutions best bet to get the most gold medals based on the last edition after they scooped more than half of the total tally with 20 medals.
The Lady Cardinals and Canons, the football and basketball sides will also be looking to retain their gold medals with the latter side full of confidence after winning the National title in October.
They will also be confident on the volleyball and netball sides of the tournament due to their participation in the top flight of their respective leagues.
Blisk Ibanda, a basketball athlete for the university, says that the familiarity of the team will provide them with an advantage in the games.
“These games will help us win a title this year after our shortcomings in the National Basketball League; we are the same squad and quite familiar with each other,” he says.
From December 16 to 21, Ndejje University will host the East Africa University Games.
