UCU Lady Canons qualify for Semi finals of the Women’s Basketball category in the 20th Association of Uganda University Sports, (AUUS) Games 2025 after hammering Kampala University, KU Eagles.

In a dominant showdown at UCU Court one, UCU Lady Canons capitalised on their home advantage as hosts of this edition and outshined KU Eagles by 72- 36.

Ciella Igiraneza and Sharifa Nalwada spilled all KU Eagles’ hopes with tomenting three points shots which mazimized UCU Lady Canons’ points in the four quarters respectively.

UCU Lady Canons’ team Captain Shilla Lamunu said that their opponent was okay though the game started on a tricky note, sluggish but the girls got the rhythm and momentum and somehow it became easier.

” We are not playing against weak teams but are a team that has been training together since January but we also play together in the National Women basketball league an added advantage to us which they personally don’t have. “Said team Captain Lamunu.

Emmanuel Kiguyi, The Head Coach UCU Lady Canons in a Post match press conference with our reporter, explained that ” We have immensely invested in the teams tremendously compared to the team’s we are competing with, we have enough experience as we participate often and regularly in the National league above all we have some of the best athletes in the country a reason for our dominance in every competition we are in. ” Coach Kiguyi narrated.

” We want to continue winning but we need to clean up on the inefficiencies within the team because we had a lot of opportunities to score which I want that we always score whenever we create them. ” Added Coach Kiguyi.

UCU Lady Canons now look forward to playing semifinals tomorrow at 7 pm basing on opponent revealed after draws later today.
