The Uganda Christian University Cardinals ran amok, putting four past the International University of East Africa men’s team.
This result leaves the UCU Cardinals team comfortably poised in the first position in group A on ten points.
UCU has three more points than Kumi University, which is the second team on the log with only seven points, having both played four games each.
The game started off with the home team, the Canons, asking a lot of questions from their visiting counterparts as Ofoyrwoth Isaac sent a free kick in which only hit the wall.
Minutes later, Tenya Derrick found himself free on the overlap, but his teasing shot was cleared by the keeper.
In a shocking turn of events, the Cardinals’ senior defender, Lubega Sharif, slipped off, bundling the ball into Musiimenta Dickson, who slotted the ball calmly into the back of the net.
This stunned the home supporters, sending a chilling sensation of anguish and visible discontent on their astonished faces.
The Cardinals increased their press in search for an equalizer and found it through their inspirational captain, Gagganga Geofrey, who sent a stunner of a shot ripping the back of the net.
The second half started with the Cardinals growing gradually into the game, as Wambuga Marvin Praise headed home from a corner to increase their advantage.
Just minutes later, Sekandi Enoch let fly an absolute pitcher which stunned the keeper, leaving him absolutely shell-shocked as it hit the back of the net.
The goal scoring spree was wrapped up in scintillating fashion by Ofoyrwoth Isaac, who chipped a well-worked ball over the opposing keeper, Simplice Abraham.
The Cardinals coach, Kintu Jimmy, looking all visibly calm and composed, remarked,
“We could have scored very many goals, but we were not clinical enough in finishing all our chances, and we have to keep improving since we have two games to go,” said Kintu.
Wambuga Marvin Praise couldn’t hide his excitement after having been selected for his distinctive performance.
“It’s an honor to win this accolade since it’s not easy to win as a defender; it gives me courage to keep working even harder as I pursue my dream,” said Wambuga.
The UCU Cardinals take on Victoria University in their next game, whereas the IUEA will take on Kumi University.
