Students from Uganda Christian University (UCU) made a notable impact at the Masaza Cup with Kyagwe’s 1-0 victory over Kooki on July 28, 2024, at Bishop Senior Secondary School.

The Masaza Cup, a prestigious tournament within the Buganda Kingdom, brings together teams from various counties to compete in a display of skill and sportsmanship. This year’s edition saw UCU Cardinals’ players represent different counties, including Kyagwe.

Elton Mwidu David, a goalkeeper from UCU, was the standout performer, making several vital saves that ensured Kyagwe’s slim 1-0 victory. His performance was instrumental in securing the win and earned him the Man of the Match accolade.

“I would not have won this award without the team spirit displayed by the coach, the technical team, and my fellow teammates because they gave their all. I thank you all for it. The supporters helped us win as well,” said Mwidu.

Geoffrey Gagganga, the captain of the UCU Cardinals, who also captains Kyagwe, had several attempts on goal but was unable to score. His leadership and determination were evident throughout the match, providing a strong presence on the field.

The Kyagwe team, representing a significant county in the Buganda Kingdom that includes Mukono, where UCU is situated, boasts several UCU Cardinals players.

In addition to Elton Mwidu and Geoffrey Gagganga, the team includes Ivan Mutebi, Godfrey Arijole, Isaac Ofoyirwoth, and fullback Ssewanyana Sharif. These players have brought their university training and teamwork to the tournament, contributing to Kyagwe’s success.
