Uganda Christian University (UCU) Vice-Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi alongside other University top officials has re-launched the construction of a state-of-the-art food court. The food court which will be situated within the premises of the UCU main campus was initially launched over a year ago when UCU signed a memorandum of understanding with Prime Media Network, the enterprise that will foresee the construction of the food court.
In addition, Mushengyezi also launched the tarmacking of the Kivengere Block (K Block) car parking stretching up to Nkoyoyo Hall and the walkways via Mirembe Hall and going uphill to Suubi road.
Mushengyezi says that he is glad to re-launch the modern food court.” I am happy to commission the food court that will give our students and staff a superb dining experience,” he said.
Mushengyezi says that the restaurant and the stationery area near the university main gate will shift to the modern food court when completed.” We shall transfer from that area near the main road and enable the people to operate in a more spacious and exclusive atmosphere with great facilities,” he said.
Mushengyezi adds that tarmacking the K- Block car parking is a phase that will eventually ensure that UCU is entirely tarmarcked.
He is grateful to the Uganda Studies Programme(USP) for their remarkable contribution towards the efforts of tarmacking the university.
Brutus Kagingo, the Executive Director of Prime Media Network says that the modern food court project was launched earlier on.” This project was launched over a year ago but because of the grave effects of COVID-19, it had to stall,” he said.
Kagingo says that he is excited that the project has resurrected.” We are committed completing the project and we promise to deliver quality work and also behave professionally as our workers operate within the University,” he said.
Kagingo says that the modern food court project is expected to be completed by September, 2022.
Eng. David Kivumbi, the Director of Facilities and Capital Projects at UCU says that the tarmarcking of the K-Block is of high quality.” We are having high quality pavers from Builders’ Yard, a reputable paver making company in Uganda,” he said.
Kivumbi adds that this is the first phase of the tarmacking and many other areas around the Campus are going to be tarmacked.
Mirembe Sserwadda Racheal, the Guild President of UCU says that she is excited about the construction of the modern food court and she believes that because it will be near the dining hall, it will be accessible to many students.
Agaba Bosco, a mobile money operator within UCU says that he welcomes the shift from the area near the main gate to the new facility to be constructed.” I am glad that we shall be able to work in a more conducive environment. This place is so dusty and sometimes, we even get diseases like flu,” he said.
Agaba says that he is grateful to the University for implementing the modern food court project and cannot wait to be part of the modern setting within the Campus.
The beautification of UCU is a project that is gearing the University towards the celebration of 25 years of its existence of 100 years of the Bishop Tucker Building. The grand celebrations will be held on 05, October, 2022.
