Uganda Christian University (UCU) is preparing to confer degrees on 1006 students on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the First Part of its 24th Graduation Ceremony. There are 444 (44%) male graduates and 562 (56%) female graduates, indicating a great achievement for gender diversity in higher education.
This graduation holds particular historical significance for the university as it will witness the first batch of Medicine and Dentistry students receiving their degrees since the institution’s inception.
Assoc. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi has congrulated the School of Medicine and Dentistry upon graduating the first coherent class of medics since the inspection of the two schools in 2018. He acknowledged the influence of the students from the schools in the medical field.
“Already our students’ factors have made a mark because wherever they have gone for their practical training as students doctors, they have distinguished themselves as very unique students, and so we are very sure if they go out in the medical field, they will make a strong mark in the medical world. We thank the administration of the School of Medicine and Dentistry,” said Mushengyezi.
Out of the graduating class, 29 students have excelled and achieved First Class honours, with 18 of them being female and 11 male. Among these high achievers, Yohana Eyob Ghebrekristos, hailing from Eritrea, stands out as the overall best student. Yohana will be graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, boasting an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.71. His dedication to academic excellence has earned him this prestigious recognition.
Wilson Wanyama, who has been named the overall top male student, Wilson, who has been pursuing a Bachelor of Development and Social Entrepreneurship, has a CGPA of 4.64. His dedication to his academics and hard work have earned him this well-deserved honour.
The 24th Graduation Ceremony will be presided over by the University Chancellor, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu. The esteemed Chief Guest for this grand event will be Rt. Rev. Dr. Dunstan Kopoliano Bukenya, adding to the significance of the occasion.
