The Cuban Ambassador to East Africa, Tania Perez Xiques, has hinted at a possible Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) linking Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Cuban universities.
For now, priority will be given to medicine and international relations (social sciences).
“As a country, we are always humbled to collaborate with Ugandan universities in areas such as health and diplomacy,” the Ambassador said.
She further added that it’s important to explore more opportunities given the bilateral cooperation that the embassy has with Uganda.
The Vice Chancellor of UCU, Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, pointed out how the university has adopted blended learning, where students are partially taught both online and in person.
“E-learning has become a digitized campus,” he said. “This strategy gives the opportunity for distance learning to thrive for both students and staff in either country.”
Prof. Elizabeth Balyejusa Kizito, the director of Research, Innovations, and Partnerships, noted that the MoU will strengthen UCU’s academic standards.
“It is more about networking and understanding who we are,” said Kizito.
Dr. Omona David, the Dean of the School of Social Sciences, says the linkage with Cuban universities will not only empower UCU in areas of research but also promote staff and student exchange programs, thus enriching the academic culture of both parties.
The ambassador revealed the message during her visit to UCU on October 23.
