The Uganda Christian University (UCU) School of Education hosted the National Curriculum Development Center (NCDC) authority for a workshop at the main campus. The workshop was about the integration of the latest education curriculum that is being implemented in schools all around the country.

The new pedagogy aims to teach learners 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration or teamwork, communication, information literacy, ICT, and flexibility. for learner creativity, especially in ICT and natural sciences

Patrick Lugema, who was the main speaker of the day, encouraged the soon-to-be teachers to always make the extra effort and conduct comprehensive research before undertaking lessons.

“Set specific goals and always conduct research because students can easily tell if you’re not confident in what you’re teaching,” he advised.

According to third-year student Perinah Mulamba, this new curriculum, also known as the competence curriculum, puts the students at the center of learning.

“Rather than cramming, this new curriculum is aimed at engaging students so that they can understand the concepts,” she explained.

The dean of the education faculty, Dr. Mary Kagwere, encouraged the students to find materials elsewhere in case they went to schools for practice.

“I always encourage you to always find extra reading materials in case you go to school for practice,”  she said.
