Today, Christian celebrate ash Wednesday which begins the lent period, a 40-day season of prayer fasting and making space for God leading up to the Easter festival.

Every year, Christians deny themselves pleasure in search for spiritualism. Believers invest a few minutes each day spending time with God. Christians preserve the fasting period as Jesus did while in the wilderness.

During this period Christians acknowledge to pray, repent, forgive those that wronged them, seek forgiveness from God and engage in activities of mercy. It is also known as the season of hymns in the traditional Anglican churches.

“Lent period prepares us to live meaningful lives to meet Jesus Christ’s demands and develop a relationship with God,” Rev. Canon Dr. Moses Stephen Isabirye said.

He adds on saying that the lent period should be a season of spiritual preparation. Christians should strengthen their faith through prayer, bible studies, fasting and doing acts of mercy.

Jonathan Sserunyange, a student, said: “I seek to understand God more, his plans for me and grow my faith in him.”

As UCU seek the mind of God over anything and confession of sins, they are advised to only fast for the right reasons and accept lord Jesus as our lord and savior.

“I will participate in the 40-day fasting in search for salvation and forgiveness of my sins,” Nancy A kello, a student says.

The university will hold a special fellowship every Wednesday for the 40 days. During this session, there will be offertory which will be used to open up a food bank to help the students who are fasting with food.

This period is normally known to be by catholic, on contrary it is an all religion season. Anyone who wishes to participate in fasting, serving God and praying is welcome.
