Uganda Christian University Basketball teams edge Victoria University Basketball teams to clinch both gold medals in the Basketball final of the 20th Association of Uganda University Sports, AUUS Games 2025.
In a highly spirited game dominated by physicality and high intensity, UCU Canons and Lady Canons managed pressure of the two games and each team won it’s game. With Canons winning 72-65 and Lady Canons winning 63-47.
Both UCU Canons and Lady Canons receiving fierce rivalry and attacking threat from the two sides of Victoria University, there was minimized point margin compared to other teams they played before the final.
In his reaction to the game UCU Canons Head Coach Jonathan Egau said that the final game is always difficult but UCU’s participation in the National basketball league always stands out as an additional advantage to them compared to opponents in controlling the game in moments of tension and pressure.
His counterpart from Victoria University, The Assistant Coach Blessed Cedric Alema attributed their loss today to an experienced side in UCU they faced. ” They have been here before for a long time in the game of basketball, we are only four years old but they have been here for over a decade. ” Said Coach Alema.
Shilla Lamunu, UCU Lady Canons Captain said there is together in the team, through working and training together since January in various games they have participated in. On top of that our league experience makes us bold enough and aggressive to face such pressure moments in the final games.
