The men’s side UCU Cardinals began the tournament with a 1-0 win over MUBS, with Kizito Jeremy grabbing a late winner, while they also suffered a 2-0 defeat against Makerere University.
It was strange that UCU was assigned to play back-to-back games when there were six teams in the group.
Basketball saw the Mukono-based side dominate in every aspect as the Canons and Lady Canons got blowout wins over YMCA (94-44) and Kenya Methodist University (72-18) on day one.
The UCU volleyball team was able to sweep aside Kenyatta University (3-0) to start off their campaign in the right way.
UCU Netball was also a good day for the university as they humbled Busitema University 43-5 as they showed the gulf in class between the sides.
