    What next after graduation

Uganda Christian University (UCU) held its first part of the 23rd graduation on July 29, 2022, with a total of 2106 graduates from the different campuses. The event was held at UCU’s main campus in Mukono.

When students graduate, there is always uncertainty about what to do next, even when they have the qualifications for the respective jobs they specialized in. This is what some of the graduates had to say about what comes next for them after graduation.

    Edgar Asiimwe Muhindo- LLB

Well, for me it is quite clear. I have been training and working with Tumusiime Kabega & Co. Advocates as I awaited graduation, and it is what I am going to keep doing as we await admissions to the Law Development Centre (LDC) sometime this year.

    Gloria Nabweteme- LLB

I have been doing an internship at the Ministry of Finance and I hope to come back after LDC because there is an opportunity for me. Then, I plan on working before I proceed to a master’s degree so that I get clarity on where and what I need to specialize in.

I plan on growing my business and getting a shop of my own because right now, I work alongside my mother. I also hope to do a postgraduate diploma in natural resources, that is oil and gas. As a young and new lawyer, I feel like I need to have knowledge of that. So, with time, I hope things fall into place. Like I always say, we plan and God laughs. He is the master planner. So, I hope and pray that my plans do come to pass.

    Derrick Muduku- BAMC

Life after graduation is all about stepping into the world and experiencing it first hand. I have had to think about aspects that I had never taken seriously since I was in my parents’ home, like my security. I live on my own and bills have to be paid. There is no room for self-pity, but the solution is to get back on one’s feet and work to be able to thrive. It is a challenge, but it is very possible to work hard and succeed here.

    Flavia Niweturiho – BHRM

After school, I was working as a business developer at a graphics company, and unfortunately, it is not something I am going to continue with. At the moment, my plan is to get a permanent job, something to sustain me as I work on getting something of my own.

    Timothy Ruhija- BSAF

Life after college is harsh. There are few jobs, everyone is passing high, and those with jobs don’t want to leave. We are a generation competing for empty space. So, we have to do more than just look for jobs. So, of course I am going to look for a job and do a professional course.

     Deborah Tugumenawe- BSWASA

I am going to look for a job or something I can do. I hope to get an opportunity for a master’s degree, although that will require work experience of one or two years.

So, I’ll first work for a while and then apply for a scholarship later on. I don’t plan on sitting at home.
