Why you must learn to communicate

There is a lack in the world today of men and women who have a high imagination, intelligence and genuine knowledge and skills, men and women who can instruct communities and societies and effect change.

This issue we are talking about is communication skills. All subjects, lessons, orientation sessions, assignments and programmes at the university have components meant to guide you on how to express yourself in speech, and written communication. From listening to language, writing and interpretation of written literature, these are key skills that people need to express themselves clearly and to see their visions being fulfilled.

Operating efficiently in your area of specialisation is only a part of what you need to do. You are required to be able to express yourself in a way that people will understand and appreciate. However, cultivating knowledge and skill in communication will require your efforts. It will require you to learn to think, to act upon your thoughts, to be confident in your expression, to read widely, to meet people and engage in relevant discussions and to share knowledge from experienced professionals.

So take the investment in your education seriously and ensure you learn to communicate well, so as to make a difference in your community.

    Library Assistant
