    UCU 1-0 She Geme
    By Michael Ainomugisha

The UCU Lady Cardinals recorded back-to-back wins in the FUFA Women’s Elite League with a narrow but hard-fought 1-0 victory over She Geme FC on April 19, 2025, at the UCU Grounds.

Fresh off a 4-1 triumph against ISRA Soccer Academy, UCU went into the match with momentum. However, early in the game, Coach Colline Ahumuza was forced into an early change when Catherine Nassimbwa replaced Meble Kusasira, who sustained an injury.

After a goalless first half, the breakthrough came in the 65th minute when Mercy Amoding struck the winner. The midfielder latched onto a well-curled corner kick delivered by captain Catherine Nakiridde, finishing confidently to secure all three points.

Amoding’s current form has been impressive, contributing four goal involvements in four games — three goals and one assist — and is beginning to thrive in her new role as a number 10.

However, the match wasn’t without setbacks; left-back Harriet Mugambwa had to be stretchered off following a heavy collision; she was replaced by Ritah Adero, who was returning from an injury she sustained in the East African University Games in Maseno, Kenya.

Speaking after the match, Amoding expressed her delight:

“I’m truly grateful for scoring in this game, which ultimately won us the match. It’s my second in two games, and I’m ready for more. Hopefully, I can find another one in our next match,” Amoding stated after a 1-0 victory.

She also commented on her positional adjustment after Nassimbwa came on:

“Playing in a wide role was challenging for me because I’m used to playing in the centre. But this is a team game, so I had to adjust quickly. It taught me to always be ready to play wherever my team needs me,” she said.

The UCU Lady Cardinals will now shift focus to their next home fixture against Royal Dreamers.
