Artan was not the only person whose World Cup experience was affected by immigration issues. Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey was also unable to join the Black Stars for their opening match after Canada denied him entry because of an ongoing legal rape case in the United Kingdom.
The Lady Cardinals continued to press for a winner and were rewarded with 12 minutes remaining when youngster Ritah Kadondi found the back of the net to complete the turnaround and secure all three points.
With Prossy Basemera scoring for the second time in a row, Cathy Nassimbwa netting her fourth goal in the last three games for the Lady Cardinals, and Ritah Adyero sealing the victory, the efforts of the star players overshadowed the only goal for BUL FC Women. The visitors’ goal came from an own goal by Lady Cardinals goalkeeper Annita Akayo after a shot by Shifa Namubiru struck her back and went into the net.
Three-time semi-finalists, FEDT, outshone last edition’s first runners-up, the School of Law. They were more composed from defence to attack, while Law was defensively solid but poor and inconsistent in midfield.
The victory means the Lady Cardinals now await the third-round draw to determine their next opponents, as well as when and where the match will be played.
School of Theology held last year’s finalists, the School of Law, to a goalless draw as the race for qualification to the knockout stage of the Uganda Christian University Inter-Faculty Games 2026 continues.
The games continue with the aim of producing two finalists to give fans and supporters a repeat of last edition’s final between the School of Law and the Faculty of Agriculture.
Simon Arike, the captain of the School of Social Sciences, netted a hat-trick, taking his goal tally to four goals in two matches. Robinson Obwana, Titus Musinguzi and Diego Mugambwa, the only representative from the School of Journalism, Media and Communication, also registered their names on the scoresheet.
Ritah Adero struck twice, while Jane Nantongo and Harriet Muwugumya added to the tally in a ruthless first-half display. Prossy Basemera sealed the win with a fifth goal in the 70th minute.
