UCU 57- 72 Oilers

UCU Canons fell 57–72 to record champions City Oilers as the first round of the 2026 National Basketball League season came to a close on Sunday, 12 April at YMCA Wandegeya.
The fixture, initially scheduled for 20 March, was postponed due to Eid al-Fitr.
UCU made a bright start, taking the opening quarter 16–11 with controlled offense and strong defensive work. However, the Oilers responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Canons 18–12 to take a narrow halftime lead.
The third quarter was evenly contested at 17–17, with both sides trading baskets and struggling to create separation. UCU stayed within reach heading into the final period.
The game shifted in the fourth quarter. City Oilers dominated 26–12, pulling away through efficient shooting and control on the boards to seal the win.
Joel Kayiira led the Oilers with a strong performance of 19 points and 16 rebounds against his former side. Malual Dier added 12 points, while Edgar Munaba and Titus Lual contributed 11 points each.
For UCU, Jimmy Otim stood out with 20 points, the only player to reach double figures for the Mukono-based side.
The result leaves UCU with a 6–5 record, placing them seventh on the log at the end of the first round.
The Canons will now shift focus to the second round as they look to improve their position in the standings.
