UCU opened their campaign with a 21β3 victory over Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) before defeating the University of Abuja 21β11 in their second group match.
With Prossy Basemera scoring for the second time in a row, Cathy Nassimbwa netting her fourth goal in the last three games for the Lady Cardinals, and Ritah Adyero sealing the victory, the efforts of the star players overshadowed the only goal for BUL FC Women. The visitors’ goal came from an own goal by Lady Cardinals goalkeeper Annita Akayo after a shot by Shifa Namubiru struck her back and went into the net.
SJMC and Social Sciences edged the School of Business 25-23 to win the UCU Inter-Faculty Netball title, while FEDAT dominated the School of Law 76-46 in the basketball final, sealing a memorable double finale to the universityβs Inter-Faculty Games.
Point guard Flore Dushime led the charge with his season-high 26 points and eight rebounds. He scored 12 of UCUβs 24 fourth-quarter points, taking control when it mattered most. Marvin Okurut added 21 points and six rebounds to support the effort.
Ritah Adero struck twice, while Jane Nantongo and Harriet Muwugumya added to the tally in a ruthless first-half display. Prossy Basemera sealed the win with a fifth goal in the 70th minute.
UCU made the brighter start. Martina Anyango set the tone early in the paint, combining with Sylvia Nantongo to give the Lady Canons a narrow 20β19 lead at the end of the first quarter.
βI thought that today I should take you out; that’s why we’re here,β Mushengyezi said as he recounted the victories registered by the students in both events.Β
UCU made a bright start, taking the opening quarter 16β11 with controlled offense and strong defensive work. However, the Oilers responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Canons 18β12 to take a narrow halftime lead.
