Timothy Ddumba, a second-year student pursuing the Bachelor of Information and Technology, has finally been sworn in as the 25th guild president of Uganda Christian University (UCU), two months after the guild election of November 18, 2022.

Ddumba said this is an honor: “To change the cycle and be a non-lawyer as guild president, it means the law school has trusted you.” “I am humbled.”

The Guild President noted that he intends to initiate a digitization agenda aimed at establishing e-governance services that will be accessed through Alpha (the University App). “This will give the electorate the ability to access their respective representatives easily and also have access to preliminary minutes and tribunals,” he said.

He also plans to lead a model government. “I want us to be exemplary so that people can love UCU through us,” he said.

The event had been deferred due to a petition that questioned the integrity of the electoral procedure by the former guild presidential aspirant, Jorem Edonu, on November 21, 2022.

Ddumba noted that the petition was his first challenge: “I was disappointed and sad for everyone who had done a lot to see us get to the finish line, only to be delayed,” he said.

Ddumba, on the other hand, said the delay had strengthened his camp even more. “It has helped us bond and understand each other,” he said.

Witnessing this occasion was Angella Makumbi Ddumba’s mother, who expressed gratitude towards her son’s achievement, “He is a focused boy. “When he told us that he wanted to be the guild president, we took it as a joke,” she said. “He has been a leader right from primary, and this is a dream come true for him,” she added.

Before coming to UCU, Ddumba served as the Deputy Head Prefect in his A-Level at King’s College Budo and the President of the Student Body at Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School, Mengo.
