With the second round of the national volleyball league set to serve off on January 31, 2026, the Uganda Christian University (UCU) Doves and Lady Doves are charging forward with renewed determination. Both teams finished the first round in a competitive fifth place in the 10-team league and are now aiming for a top-four finish and a play-off berth.

The first round ended on a high note for the UCU teams, with both winning crucial matches. The Lady Doves edged past UPDF in a 3-1 scoreline, while the Doves powered past Police with a hard-fought 3-2 battle. These victories solidified their mid-table position, leaving them only two points behind fourth place.

Team captain Daphine of the UCU Lady Doves expressed confidence in the squad’s preparations.

“With the training we are doing, we are ready to start the second round. I hope by the time it comes to an end we shall be in the playoffs,” she stated.

Doves coach Deogracious Anguria also emphasised the team’s target of vying for the playoff spot ahead of the second round.

“So far, we’re in mid-season and heading to the league’s second round, and the teams are steadily preparing physically and mentally to fight for a top four finish, which guarantees a spot in the playoffs,” Anguria said.

Aguria went on to comment on the team’s plans for managing expectations.

“The expectation is to have a better game display focused on earning maximum points from our opponents and entering the league title challenge,” he said.

Team captain Omara Mark also emphasised a step-by-step approach in the second round, with the ultimate goal of competing for the championship.

“We have tried to prepare enough for the second round, and we expect to put up a better show. The goal is to get to the playoffs first, then aim for the championship,” he said.

The UCU Doves and Lady Doves will be facing KAVC at 5:00 pm and VVC at 3:00 pm, respectively, at Sports Grounds Nsambya on the opening day.

Time and results will be the factors in whether they make it to the playoffs.
