Uganda Christian University (UCU) volleyball teams delivered standout performances in the 2024/25 National Volleyball League on Independence Day at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.
Both the UCU Lady Doves and UCU Doves showed their strength in high-stakes encounters, with the men’s team taking on the reigning National Club Championship (NCC) champions Nemo Stars in a thrilling match.
The UCU Doves faced a formidable Nemostars side, fresh off their 2024 NCC title, in what proved to be a tense and hard-fought contest.
Nemostars initially dominated, winning the first set 25-18, but UCU rallied back, turning the game around with impressive determination and tactical plays. The Doves clawed their way to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-22, and 25-23, securing an outstanding 3-1 victory.
The match was packed with intense rallies, with both teams vying for a win in front of a charged crowd.
“This win means a lot, and getting the 3 points from a team like Nemostars, a big team, is a plus for us. As we prepare for the next game against Sky, we need to stay focused and aim for another 3 points to boost our position on the table.” Said Doves Captain Mark Omara
Earlier in the day, the UCU Lady Doves continued their perfect run in the women’s Serie A with a commanding 3-0 sweep against Kampala Amature Volleyball Club (KAVC) Ladies.
The Lady Doves remain unbeaten after three games, including two clean sweeps, showcasing their dominance this season. They took control of the game early, winning the sets 25-18, 26-24, and 25-22, withstanding KAVC’s resistance in a closely fought second set.
The Lady Doves’ victory follows their previous 3-0 win against Vision Volleyball Camp (VVC) and a thrilling 3-2 win over Ndejje Elites, marking a flawless start to their campaign. They now sit firmly atop the standings, with their eyes set on maintaining their unbeaten streak.
