The Division of Academic Affairs (DVCAA) defeated the Vice Chancellor’s Division (VC) 2–1 in a lively football match played on Wednesday 5th November afternoon at the New Pitch, earning a place in the finals of the ongoing Uganda Christian University Staff Sports Gala.

Goals from The Standard UCU’s Dedan Tumusiime and the School of Business’ Maiso Solomon secured victory for DVCAA. VC’s only goal came from Rev Dr Simon Feta, who took advantage of a goalkeeping error to briefly revive his side’s hopes.

Maiso opened the scoring before half-time, converting a well-placed pass from the Writing Centre’s Martin Kajubi, sending the DVCAA supporters into loud celebration. VC pulled one back through Rev Dr Feta after the break, but their comeback was short-lived. A poor clearance from the VC goalkeeper was blocked by Academics Central’s Simon Asiimwe, who set up Dedan for a curling finish into an empty net to restore DVCAA’s lead and seal the win.

The result puts DVCAA in a strong position ahead of the final match on Friday, 7 November, when they will face the Division of Finance and Administration (DVCFA) in a decisive football fixture.

Other activities lined up for Friday include both athletic and fun games such as the walking race, rope skipping, dodgeball, tug of war, 4×100 relays for men and women, and men’s football.

Non-athletic events will feature musical chairs, Bible books, fish bowl, giant Jenga, water games, giant snakes and ladders, giant Ludo, and giant playing cards.
