Students at Uganda Christian University, celebrated Eid last week on March 20th with feasting and fun.

Eid Mubarak closes the holy Islamic month of fasting on the Muslim calendar. On that day, Muslims celebrated with families and friends, shared meals, gave charity and celebrated their achievements.

Bashir Wandawa, a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration, shared the beauty of this celebration.

“For us, Eid Mubarak is about coming together, sharing food, and showing gratitude to Allah who has brought us from far,” he said.

During the celebration, Wandawa’s family shared a traditional dish, pilau that his mother cooked and served according to age groups. He says he enjoyed sharing a communal meal with his peers that strengthened their bond.

Apart from meeting friends and family, Wandawa says he also made new friends.

Another student who studies Public Health, Nursing and Midwifery, and preferred to remain anonymous, shared that he reunited with his old friends and celebrated with family and even random people.

During their preparation, he helped with shopping on the previous day and also slaughtered chicken in the morning of Eid.

“The main activity was praying. I began with the Eid congregation prayer at around 9am and later on, I went back for Juma prayers since it’s a Friday. We prayed from St. Joseph’s Primary School football field in Nantabulirwa, Seeta Parish,” he said.

He shared that apart from feasting with family, he arranged business deliveries for their family business. He was thrilled by how people celebrated happily irrespective of their differences.

Some students who celebrated also spent time taking photos in memory of the festival.
